“The Apple TV+ series The Morning Show boasts a large and talented ensemble, which includes Nestor Carbonell, who portrays Yanko Flores, the weatherman for the show-within-a-show who finds himself in hot water in season two when a comment he makes attracts the attention of a displeased audience not eager to let it go.
Awards Radar had the chance to dive into Carbonell’s experience playing this part, his other TV roles, and a very detailed debrief on Lost more than a decade after its conclusion. On how he approached crafting Yanko with writer and executive producer Kerry Ehrin, here’s what Carbonell had to say:
“This guy thought of himself as a poet, who was truly passionate about the climate and weather in general, but he was completely underappreciated for his craft, and his knowledge. Someone who has this romantic passion but also has this darkness underneath all that. That was so compelling for me as an actor for me to dive into and then add to that that he’s embroiled in a relationship with a young woman at work and the #metoo revelations of the Mitch Kessler character, now he’s finding himself in hot water, certainly in his mind. I loved all the complication and the nuances and the gray areas, which is what the show does so well.”
