It was announced yesterday through Instagram by Motherland director, Evan Matthews that the film won Best Drama Feature at the Smodcastle Film Festival. In addition it also won Best Feature and Best Director at the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation, and Technology.

Vertical Acquires North American Rights to MPI Original Films’ Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Motherland’ (EXCLUSIVE)
The film stars Miriam Silverman, Holland Taylor, Néstor Carbonell and Emily Arancio.
Vertical has acquired North American rights to MPI Original Films’ sci-fi thriller “Motherland.” Starring Miriam Silverman (“Your Friends and Neighbors,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Holland Taylor (“The Morning Show,” “Bombshell”), Néstor Carbonell (“Shōgun,” “Pulse”), and introducing Emily Arancio, the film is set for release in select theaters and on demand on Sept. 12, 2025.
Directed by Evan Matthews and written by Nicole Roewe (née Swinford), “Motherland” focuses on an alternate present society where the state frees parents from the burden of raising children, until a rule enforcer (Silverman) learns a shocking truth that sparks her rebellion.
‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’ Sets April 2026 Release Date
Ready or not, here it comes — again! “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come,” the sequel to Searchlight’s 2019 horror hit “Ready or Not,” will hit theaters nationwide on April 10, 2026.

Motherland wins Runner-Up at the Omaha Film Festival
It was announced on Sunday that Nestor’s latest film, Motherland won runner-up/Honorable mention for a feature film at the Omaha Film Festival!

RIP & Pulse Coming Soon to Netflix
Yesterday, the Next on Netflix event was held where the upcoming schedule for this year was announced. While exact dates were not given, Nestor’s upcoming projects: RIP and Pulse are set to debut on the streaming platform in the fall (for the film, RIP), and spring.

SNYOPSIS: In the Motherland, state-run Children’s Centers raise all citizens, ensuring a fair upbringing and freeing parents from child-rearing burdens. This seemingly utopian system turns into a nightmare for a Motherland enforcer who uncovers the true identity of a young woman in her care. When the Center launches a program to combat population decline, she becomes determined to protect the young woman from becoming part of it. Defying the system she once upheld, she risks everything to save her—that is, if the Motherland doesn’t stop her first.

2024 In Review
As 2024 draws to a close, we take a look back at what the year has brought—and no doubt about it—what a year it has been for Nestor and the fandom! 2024 kicked off with The Morning Show Finale Screening and Q&A, which was then followed by La Cena Los Angeles, an event celebrating Latinos in entertainment. While Nestor did not attend the Emmys in January, he did attend the afterparty celebration by AppleTV+ with Shannon.
We began February with another screening of The Morning Show Season 3 Finale, in which Nestor joined his castmates for a Q&A with fans and fellow actors. The end of the month finally brought us the highly anticipated premiere of Shogun, in which Nestor appeared for 3 episodes as the foul-mouthed sailor, Vasco Rodrigues. In March, we got the announcement that Nestor had been interviewed for the Getting Lost Documentary which was in production to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the critically acclaimed series.
In April, Nestor was interviewed by the University of Miami’s School of Communication for their news segment where he discussed his role on Shogun among other things. We also saw him attend an additional screening of The Morning Show and the announcement of his casting in the new Netflix series, Pulse as senior surgeon, Dr. Ruben Soriano. The Image of You was released on May 10th, which Nestor appeared on the LA news show, KTLA to promote. Finally, on May 17th, it was revealed that Nestor had been submitted as a potential nominee for an Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Emmy Award.
Throughout mid year, Nestor attended a few more screening and panels for the latest season of The Morning Show as well as began promoting Shogun for his Emmy nomination bid. On July 16th, it was announced that he was nominated for a Gold Derby TV Award for Shogun, and the following day he received his first Emmy Nomination of his career. July 19th we finally saw the release of the dark comedy, Clawfoot which he filmed in 2022 as an independent movie. We rounded out July with an Imagen Award nomination this time as a supporting actor in The Morning Show for his role as Yanko Flores. In August, Nestor won his first award for Shogun, the previously mentioned Gold Derby TV Award which was voted for by members of Gold Derby.
September 8th, Nestor took home the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama at the Creative Arts Emmy which he attended with Shannon. During the speech he thanked her for her long time career as an actress as well as her decision to retire from the profession which helped him focus on his craft. He said that he was sharing the award with her, he also went on to thank his management team, castmates as well as crew from Shogun. During this time Nestor spoke about the honor of winning the award which he had not anticipated, he also went on to direct another episode of Law & Order which he returned to do after attending the Creative Arts Emmys Ceremony. He also attended the Primetime Emmy Awards on September 15th to support both the cast of The Morning Show and Shogun. While in October, Nestor won his third award for Shogun, winning an OFTA Award for Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
2024 closes with the October announcement of Nestor’s casting in the Ben Affleck/Matt Damon produced drama, RIP which is currently in production. As well as the airing of Nestor’s latest directing work for the long running series, Law & Order for its Halloween episode. In December, the long awaited Getting Lost Documentary was released first to backers followed by an on demand streaming option on Vimeo. It was also announced via social media that he would attend PsychOdelphia in April, 2025 for a reunion of Psych which Nestor appeared in for 2 episode.
