As 2021 draws to a close we are taking a look back at what the year has brought for Nestor & the fandom! After a quiet 2020 due to the state of the world there was never a dull moment: from conventions, podcast, as well filming and directed this was quite a year!

Starting in January Nestor attended his first Convention with GalaxyCon which was a small Lost reunion. The event kicked off with a virtual panel where Néstor was joined by co-stars Emilie DeRaven, Francois Chau, & more. During the free live stream panel, we even saw an appearance by Shannon as they discussed the upcoming release of her book All Is Not Lost. In addition to the panel, fans were able to purchase one-on-one chats with the cast members where they could do selfies & buy autographed photos as well.

On February 13, Néstor made a brief appearance during the virtual Seasons of Love Gala where he gave the closing remarks during the live stream benefitting Shane’s Inspiration. The organization builds playgrounds for children and fosters the importance of inclusion for all children through education as well. March 16, saw the release of Shannon’s debut book All Is Not Lost to rave reviews during this time it was promoted by both Nestor & Shannon through various means. From Nestor interviewing Shannon about her memoir to appearing on various podcasts and even on KTLA News in Los Angeles. The day after release it went on to hit #1 on Amazon for New Release books.

In May, Nestor was a guest on Meisterkhan Podcast where he discussed The Tick, Bates Motel, and more. He also made his return to Conventions in person when he appeared along with Shannon at Pensacon. For 3 days they visited fans signing photos as well as copies of All Is Not Lost. Days after the event he surprised everyone in the fandom by beginning the filming of Bandit in Georgia. He portrays, John Snydes a detective tasked with pursuing an escaped convict who will use any means to avoid capture. Filmed over a month the movie based on the true story of the flying bandit is expected to be released in 2022.

In addition to his acting career, Néstor added another directing credit to his name in August when he directed “Seed Money” the 4th episode of Season 4 of the hit medical drama, New Amsterdam. After getting our first look at the trailer & production stills of Season 2 at the beginning of September the cast of The Morning Show attended the Season 2 Photocall in Beverly Hills on September 8th.
Season 2 of The Morning Show began streaming weekly on Apple TV+ after premiering at midnight on September 17th. Throughout the season we saw our beloved weatherman dealt with his breakup with Claire. As well as battling cancel culture and accusations of racism in cultural appropriation due to an on-air comment he makes. After a very public physical altercation he is suspended and we see little of him for the remainder of the season. He does come through in the end when UBA has to quarantine and he is the only one available to work, however.

While at times the season was a bit Yanko light it was an interesting storyline and vastly different from his role in Season 1. On September 30th, it was announced that Néstor rounded out the cast of the FX miniseries, Shōgun. A reboot of the 1980s TV miniseries based on the popular novel. Nestor began filming that month, portraying the role of Father Rodrigues as of yet it is not clear how he figures into the storyline. Ending out the year, on November 18 the finale of The Morning Show was screened for SAG Members with a cast panel accompanying the screening in Los Angeles. It has certainly been a year and cannot wait to see the release of Bandit next year and what more 2022 will bring.
